Is a bonnet necessary for a catholic baptism?
I don’t really like them and was wondering if the baby HAS to wear one for her baptism in the catholic church?
No, it’s not necessary. I’m not sure that any certain type of clothing is actually required, although a white outfit is traditional. My daughters had a bonnet that came with their baptismal dress, but they only wore it to Church, just because I thought it was cute. In fact, when the baby is being baptised, they are having water poured over their head, so a bonnet would be very unnecessary at that point.

no, not anymore
… I remember seeing pictures of me and my siblings/cousins all wearing them, though I’m not sure they were ever mandatory, I think they were just fashionable!

No it isn’t necessary. They would take it off anyway when the baptism is done. So I don’t think so. You could always ask you priest.

No. The priest would have you remove it for the baptism, anyway.

No, it’s actually better not to have one.
There are anointings that include touching the forehead and ears of the child.
When I baptize infants I always ask parents to bring their babies in something simple like a onesie. This makes it easier to access the baby’s chest. The baby is then clothed in the formal baptismal outfit after the baptism. This brings the event closer to the original idea of the white garment.
The ideal is to come naked to the baptismal font and then be clothed in the white garment afterwards. This represents the new life in Christ that comes through baptism.
