Any would be a great help (:
For simple, relatively quick, and cute-as-can-be hats, bonnets, and sweaters, it would be hard to beat the "Five-Hour Baby Sweater" group of patterns at http://www.fibergypsy.com/patterns/swtrpatt.shtml .
The yarn companies have hundreds of free patterns for babies, and (since their goal is to sell yarn) most of them are within the "easy" category, even if they look spectacular. The patterns will be rated (beginner, easy, intermediate, advanced) so you can pick your skill level. I’ve used a number of Lion Brand patterns over the years and can recommend them: http://www.fibergypsy.com/patterns/swtrpatt.shtml. Bernat also has attractive patterns here: http://www.bernat.com/search.php?pst=k&psub=b&advps=y You will be asked to sign in for both of them. I’ve never had a problem with their registration process; if you’re apprehensive, sign up for a free Yahoo! email account and use it for registration.
And Knitting Pattern Central has a directory for "everything baby" at http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/baby.php

there are TONS of books in your local hobby stores ( Hobby Lobby, Michaels, A.C. Moore, JoAnn, etc)
There are also FREE designs on the skein wrappers (on the inside) and try googling for some sites..

I don’t knit, but I do crochet, sew, quilt and hand/machine embroider.

There are hundreds of free patterns for all kinds of baby things. Did you do a search for them? These are about the most common of all knitting patterns. But trying to find patterns for men’s sweaters isn’t that easy.
