What’s the average car engine temperature?

Can someone please tell me what is the average temperature of a car under the bonnet? Like, the temp where the fuel would be traveling around in the car? Is it higher than 78.4 C and what’s the exact temp?

There is no exact temp. Different cars will run different temps at different times of the year with different traffic conditions and so on and so on. Most thermestats are set to open up at 180F though giving you a fairly normal operating range of around 200F. You can do the conversion to see what that comes out to in C but I would guess that would be somewhere around 80C probably higher than 78.4

  1. For normal cars, it is usually between 160-195. For Ford products its usually high till they pop.

  3. Most cars thermostats are set for about 90C or 190F. They turn on the cooling fans between 104-107C or 220-225F. Older cars used lower temps. The engine temp doesn’t mean the under hood temp is the same and every car will be different due to design or location of the part you want the temp of. Close to the exhaust manifold will be hottest as the manifold is hotter than the engine coolant. You can get a non contact thermometer and check the temp of the parts you are interested in, that’s the only way you’ll know the exact temp of the various parts.
