ISO 22000 and Food Safety Certification

The ISO 22000 standard general requirements for food safety management system certification are laid out in clause 4.1. In order to be certified an organization needs to establish, document, implement and maintain an effective food safety management system.

The scope of the food safety management system certification should clearly define the products, processes and production sites that are applicable.

ISO 22000:2005 Clause 4.2 describes the documentation required in order to achieve food safety certification. The food safety management system documentation should include a food safety policy and related objectives, documented procedures and records required by the standard and those necessary to ensure the food safety management system is effective.
