My inerior car light will not go off!?

I own a vauxhall astra, 4 years old, and have had no problems with it so far. When driving home from work today i noticed the interior light was on, and assumed i’d left a door open… Checked and re-checked the doors, boot and bonnet and all closed. Have checked the fuses (as best i can) and even disconnected the battery but as soon as i hooked it up again it came back on! Don’t think the switch is broken, as i haven’t touched it in ages….

Please help before my battery dies and i have to ride to work in the rain!
I have tried the switch directly next to the light, the back ones were also on but i could switch them off, it’s just the front one, so unless the front switch is stuck on i don’t know what else to do!

Where is the switch? In the older model Astra you had to pull (to turn on) or push (to turn off) the rotary control switch for the headlights/sidelights.

There is a switch (manual switch) to turn ON and off the inside cab light. ALL CARS have them. Find it and make sure it is turned off.

If that does NOT solve the problem, then for now remove the light bulbs so you can at least leave the battery connected – until you go see a mechanic.

    Good Luck…

one of the door switches is probably grounding out and keeping it on, if you can, take them out and check for corrosion or a broken wire, some vehicles they just pull out some screw out. Or you could just pull the bulb out.

  6. there is switch for your dash lights on the dashboard make sure it is not turned up all the way because that is the on postion for your doom light if that doesn’t work take the bulb out

  7. Take the bulb out until you can get it fixed.
That way you won’t drain the battery.

  8. Sounds like a faulty door switch.

  9. Well, the quick fix is to take the bulb out. At least you won’t have to ride out in our lovely summer weather! Maybe you will have the time at the weekend to fiddle with it. Personally I never missed mine, it was so dim as to be useless anyway . . .

  10. I believe that the Astra is the same as my Combo: You press the headlight switch to get the interior lights on, and agin to turn it off. It automatically switches the light off after 1/2 an hour, so if you haven’t switched it on, make sure it still goes off after 1/2 an hour after you last closed or locked any doors.
Could be a door switch faulty.

Sorry, no advice on this one.

  12. turn the knob next to the headlight switch or it could be that little button where the door shuts.
